We are a family mill, in 1915 Herbert Brown (my great, great grandfather) established Brown & Sons (Bramley), making us 105 years old this year! We originally produced fabric for the uniforms of the police and fire brigade and to this day, our fabric is used by the most prestigious establishments including the Royal Household Guard. Over the years our customer base and product has changed a lot, but it’s still all woven in England at Empire Mills, Yorkshire. That much will never change. Throughout the 1960’s, third generation Brown family Alfred and David were at the forefront of the booming Yorkshire textile industry. We embraced modern technology and built strong relationships with iconic department stores and world leading garment manufacturers, including Burton (who were the biggest suit manufacturers in the world at that point in time). Our consistency and quality mean that our fabrics are still sold throughout the high-end British high-street 60 years on!Our business is built on a belief system that we produce the best fabric we can at the very best price. It’s made possible by continued investment in efficient machinery and a strong respect for the traditions of worsted weaving. We have a renowned reputation for quality and value, unmatched by any other UK mill. That has made us the best kept secret of the finest UK fabric merchants and luxury brands.
